Planning a kids birthday party in Belleville, IL? Here's how to book Escape 618's Detention room, pricing, waivers, and nearby food spots.
Detention is the room we point parents toward for a 10th birthday. It’s built for ages 10 and up, it seats a crowd, and nobody gets scared. Here’s how to plan the whole afternoon, from booking to cake.
Detention is rated for players 10 and older, and it’s the room we built with this age group in mind. There are no jump scares, no sudden lighting changes, and no live actor. Kids are solving locks, finding keys, and working through physical clues together, which is exactly the kind of puzzle that holds a group’s attention for an hour.
The story is simple enough for a ten-year-old to follow: the group starts stuck at their desks after their teacher, Mr. Picard, steps out of the room. They’ve got 60 minutes to find a hidden key, get into the school computer, and fix their grades before he’s back.
Because we have two separate Detention rooms, we can run two birthday groups side by side, for up to 24 kids total. About 75% of teams make it out, so most birthday crews leave with a win.
Pricing for Detention breaks down like this:
A booking needs a minimum of 4 players and can hold up to 12 in a single room. That minimum isn’t arbitrary. Detention’s puzzles are built to be solved out loud, with multiple kids talking and working through clues at once. Smaller groups tend to struggle more, since there’s less back-and-forth problem-solving.
To hold your slot, you’ll put down a $35 deposit when you book. The rest of the balance is settled after the game, based on how many kids actually showed up, and your group can split the bill however works best, card or cash.
Every player under 18 needs a parent or guardian to sign a digital waiver before the game starts. That’s done on arrival, so if you’re the one booking for a group of friends, make sure the other parents know a signature is required at check-in.
If any player in your group is under 16, a parent or guardian has to stay on-site for the entire 60 minutes. The game master running your room is focused on the game itself, not supervising kids, so this isn’t optional. If a quick break or a reassuring face is needed, that adult needs to be nearby.
Plan for roughly 75 to 90 minutes total, not just the 60-minute game clock. That extra time covers check-in, signing waivers, and a quick briefing from your game master before the timer starts. Afterward, everyone gets a free group photo, win or not.
Arriving 15 minutes before your booked time is important. The next group’s session is already scheduled right behind yours, so a late arrival eats into your own game time rather than pushing the whole day back.
One more note on photos: cameras and phones stay away during the actual game. The only photo op is that group shot once time’s up.
Escape 618 doesn’t allow food in the lobby during regular business hours, but the front patio has 8 picnic tables set up right outside, and that’s where cake and food are welcome. It’s an easy spot to set up a small party spread before or after the game.
Escape 618 itself doesn’t have a separate party room during regular hours. That said, several nearby businesses do offer private party spaces, so it’s worth checking with them directly if you want an indoor spot to extend the celebration.
Walking distance from our door, you’ll find options like Bennie’s Pizza Pub, Sugar High for baked goods and coffee, Papa Vito’s, Casa Maria, Tavern on Main, Grüv Bistro & Wine Bar, Shoehorn Brewing, Copper Fire, The Roundabout Bar & Grill, and Grafted Wine Bar. Plenty of ground to cover if you want to turn the escape room into a longer outing.
If you’re searching for a kids birthday party in Belleville, IL, book your Detention slot through escape618.com/booking/ about 1 to 2 weeks ahead. Weekends and holidays fill first, so earlier is better if you’ve got a specific date in mind. Walk-ins are sometimes possible, but they’re not something to count on for a birthday.
Plans change, and that’s fine. Cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before your booked time and your deposit is refunded in full. Cancel later, or don’t show, and the deposit isn’t returned.
A couple of practical notes while you’re getting everyone ready: closed-toe shoes are required, and it’s worth wearing clothes you don’t mind getting a little dusty, since you may end up crawling.
A good Detention birthday comes down to a few simple moves: book early, get waivers handled before game day, have an adult on-site if your group includes kids under 16, and save the cake for the picnic tables outside. Head to escape618.com/booking/ to check open times and lock in your date.
