Something never left this house.

You’ve been dared to enter the house of Alice. Find a candle, hold hands, and chant “Alice, come play” three times before trying to blow it out.

Legend says she was trapped there, and anyone foolish enough to wake her up has to be her best friend forever. That is, unless they can find a little heart-shaped necklace before time runs out.

And just like the story told, she’s real. Alice is played by a live actor, and the Haunted House of Alice is designed to make you scream, shout, and jump about.

The Haunted House of Alice is Belleville’s only live-actor escape room, at 102 East Main Street.

You must be 16 or older to play. WARNING: This room contains flashing and strobe lights, sudden lighting changes, loud noises, jump scares, and a live actor. Groups need 4-8 players.

The Haunted House is for players 16 and older. This room is designed to be genuinely scary, with jump scares, loud noises, a live actor, and sudden changes in lighting. The intensity that makes it fun for older teens and adults can be truly frightening for younger kids, so we don't make exceptions to the age requirement. Groups must have 4-8 players.

Strobe warning: This room contains strobe and flashing light effects. If you or anyone in your group has epilepsy or is sensitive to flashing lights, this room is not recommended.

How scary is the Haunted House?

It’s our scariest room, but it’s all about jump scares, not gore. There’s no blood and no graphic content. The goal is to keep you a little worried about what’s coming next. When someone gets scared, we want them to laugh, we want the whole room to laugh, and then we want everyone screaming again. Jump scares, a live actor, loud noises, and flashing lights keep you on edge from start to finish. If your group loves a good scare, this is the room for you.

Will the actor touch me?

No. Our actor will never touch you. They’re there to scare you, not to put hands on you.

Why is this room 16 and older?

This room is built to scare, with jump scares, a live actor, loud noises, and flashing lights coming at you from start to finish. For older teens and adults, that means screaming, laughing, and a great time. Younger kids react differently. When they get scared, they tend to overreact, and that can mean panicking, lashing out, or breaking down in tears. One upset kid can bring the whole game to a halt for everyone. Even though there’s no blood or graphic content, the intensity is real, so we don’t make exceptions to the age requirement.

What if it gets too scary?

You’re never trapped. The exit door is always unlocked, so you can walk out anytime. Your game master is watching and listening the entire time.

If you need to room to stop. All you have to do is say so and the lights will turn on and your game master will be there immediately to assist.

Is it just scares, or is it an escape room?

It’s a full escape room. You’ll still need to solve puzzles and work as a team to escape, all while the house works against you.

I'm sensitive to flashing lights. Can I play?

This room contains strobe and flashing light effects. If you or anyone in your group has epilepsy or is sensitive to flashing lights, this room is not recommended.

Can someone in our group sit out the scares?

Not really. Scares are aimed at whoever is interacting with something in the room at that moment, so you can stay in the background and let your teammates take the lead. That doesn’t mean you’re safe, though. When the person up front jumps or screams, there’s a good chance you’ll jump right along with them. And that’s the fun of it! The Haunted House is built to scare you and then make you laugh, and those moments of screaming together are the ones your group will be talking about long after the game ends.
